Hot Summer in the City Book Review (Part 1: The Book vs The Movie, Day 1, Chapter 1)

As stated in the last post, I thought readers would enjoy knowing what significant material was left out of the movie, and what significant differences exist between the two stories. In addition, as an aspiring author seeking to draft a sequel to this movie, I wanted to cull the book for additional background material and possible storylines that could help me to tell a better story, one that will be true to the spirit of both the original book and movie.

There are a few, small but irreconcilable differences between the book and movie which will create situations where I must make choices as to what material should be considered canonical in my novelization. Readers will be able to come to these book review posts to see where those choices were made. In most cases I will err in favor of the movie, given that is what fans will be more familiar with, since the book is almost impossible to find.

A NOTE ON THE AUTHOR: As the book author is listed as "The Hare" who is also accredited with directing the movie, HSITC's book author is widely believed to be Gail Palmer.  However, just as with HSITC's directorship, book authorship is also disputed, and this controversy will be addressed in a future post.

The HSITC book has 6 chapters which cover events over a three-day period in July 1967. I will address significant differences between the book and movie, as well additional material found only in the book. I will also post some excerpts from the book that I feel are well written and help capture both the spirit of the characters, and the summer of 1967 time period in which this story unfolds. Without further ado, let's get started:

Chapter 1 (Intro Scene: Debby driven home by Bill).  This chapter actually contains the most additional material and differences between the book and movie.  The book starts off just like the movie, with Bill driving his girlfriend and our story's protagonist, Debbie, home from an engagement party. Or should I have said, "Debby"?

Mark this as the first difference! In my sequel novel's draft, I am using the movie spelling as I was unaware of the other when I started it. I have elected to stay with this as the canonical spelling for my novel, but will use "Debbie" here, to stay true to the book.

On the drive home, we learn that Debbie and Bill have recently became engaged and are returning home from an engagement party. Debbie is described as being dressed up in a bare shouldered, knee length, white veneered formal. A symbolic choice of color by the author, given Debbie is at her engagement party and later forcibly loses her virginity to Duke in the back of the gang's car. The backdrop to the story is that it is occurring in Michigan, right before the 1967 Detroit Race Riot, which historically occurred in July of 1967.

Two significant differences quickly reveal themselves:

    1. The movie has the couple leaving the Pontchartrain Hotel (in Detroit, Michigan), whereas the book depicts the party at their local Country Club.

    2. The movie has them getting married in 3 months, whereas the book says four years, during which time Debbie intends to work while Bill goes to college. While movie Debby is clearly intended to be a college aged young woman, we soon learn that book Debbie is only 18 years old! In my novel, I have elected to stay with the movie on these points.

As the car scene continues to the point where the couple arrives at Debby's house, much additional information is learned about the family dynamics in Debbie's household:

-Debbie's father had died several months ago, after a long, undefined illness. Debbie was very close to her father and is wanting to stay a virgin until she marries because of him. She feels his spirit is watching her, and out of love for him she doesn't want to break a promise she made to him to be a "good girl" shortly before the end of his life. She equates this with staying a virgin until she is married. Hence, Bill doesn't get past first base with Debbie in the book either.

- Debbie's mother was at the party with Bill's parents and other family and friends. Both moms' had too much to drink. Debbie's mom embarrassed Debbie by dancing suggestively with many men, and ended up having to be driven home early by Bill's dad (named Sam) and a family friend known only as Mr. Grover. Debby is so embarrassed by her mother's behavior she becomes suspicious that she may have been having an affair on her dad during the period he was dying. Her mother often came home late from what she described as "charity engagements."  Just as in the movie, Bill's dad and Mr. Grover take Debbie's mom home (described as being colonial style house).

-New Character: Debbie's brother "Jimmy"

Debbie's brother is a source of conflict in Debbie's family. Jimmy has run away to San Francisco due to believing their father has been too hard on him. Their father believed their mother coddled Jimmy too much and they fought over him and blamed each other for his running away. Now in San Fransisco, Jimmy has to keep begging his mom for money to survive. Their mother is now giving him less than he needs as she is trying to force him to come home. Debbie is very worried about his well-being and has even given him some of her own money out of concern. Jimmy's latest request for money had been much more than usual, and Debbie's is afraid he is in serious trouble.

Due to this issue, Debbie began being lavished with extra love and attention by her father while he was alive. This has made Debbie's mother resent her, especially as after he died, Debbie was given the bulk of his inheritance in a Trust Account. Debbie's mother was seemingly left with just a life estate in the home and a single fund that provides her a monthly allowance, and Jimmy received nothing. Unfortunately for Debbie, she won't be given income from the Trust until she is 21 and has only $80.00 to her name from her high school graduation money (which is actually $673.41 in 2022 money!).

As this scene ends, another significant difference occurs. Instead of Bill and Debbie parting happily, the two begin arguing about Jimmy, and Bill calls Jimmy a "weak livered sissy" which makes Debbie angry. She slams his car door and then storms into the house.

Scene 2 -Debby enters her family house

-Upon entering the house, Debbie sees booze on the kitchen table and makes a mixed drink with coke to calm her nerves (omitted in the movie) .

-As in the movie, Debbie hears sounds that make her believe her mother is being assaulted. But then she peeks in and sees her mother having sex with Bill's dad, followed by Mr. Grover (whose watching from a chair and stroking his uncircumcised manhood instead of being given head like in the movie). Mr. Grover's penis is the first penis Debbie has ever seen in her life and she is grossed out by it (innocently thinking 'it looks like a one-eyed monster').  Debby leaves her home running out the front door and forgets to shut it.

-Walking the street at night by herself, Debbie decides she needs to breakup with Bill and hates her mother so much she never wants to see her again.  Breaking up with Bill is a must, as the sight of her mother having sex with Bill's dad felt incestuous.  Seeing them together confirms Debbie's suspicions that her mother must have been cheating on her father before he died.

- Debbie contemplates her future and decides to somehow get to San Francisco to be with her brother, who is the only person she feels she has left in her life.

- Unfortunately, unbeknownst to Debbie, she has passed by the park near her home and is walking on a street at the edge of town. Soon a carload of black men pullup beside Debbie and begin openly ogling and harassing her, scaring her into going off running into the night. Debbie is then kidnapped by the men with the nearby neighbor looking on indifferently, just as in the movie.

Scene 3. Kidnapped and violated in the Gang's car

Before discussing this disturbing scene, a brief review of HSITC's historical time period is in order. Through this prism one is better able to appreciate the author's work, seeing how the grim details in this scene are essential (i.e. non- gratuitous) elements that illuminate the true complexity and spirit of the HSITC story.

July 1967 is a year of great racial unrest in the U.S. Many in the Black community are frustrated by the seeming lack of social progress resulting from the peaceful Civil Rights movements. Some are even turning towards Black Nationalist & Separatist movements which advocate violence as a necessary means for creating a society that doesn't discriminate against them.

At this time, the Supreme Court ruling that prohibited States from making interracial marriage illegal was only one month old.  Because of such laws (and many other reasons) many black men saw white women as the ultimate symbol of white supremacy and equated the sexual possession of one as symbolic of freedom. Writing from prison, Black Panther Leader Eldridge Cleaver describes white women as being from a forbidden tribe, quoting a fellow black inmate as saying, "All our lives we've had the white woman dangled over our heads like a carrot before a donkey. Look but don't touch."

Cleaver wrote this while serving time in prison for raping a white woman and admitted to having raped several. While expressing remorse for this in his book "Soul on Ice," he described feeling at the time that his offense was an "insurrectionary act," as by defiling white women he was defying and trampling on the white man's laws and systems of values. During the turbulence of the late 1960s, this type of motive was growing in prevalence among both black and white perpetrators of interracial rapes, each viewing it as a type of justifiable revenge for the inverse form of rape committed by the other.

In the HSITC book, it is as though the author has placed the mind of the young Eldridge Cleaver inside the mind of Duke's head, with the same general outlook shared by all the gang members:

-Debbie's status as a virgin being forcibly deflowered is dealt with to a painfully detailed degree, as if designed to evoke the greatest fear of a white person from this era. Stitch gets his fingers inside her and damages Debbie's hymen first, then Duke completes the puncturing by rape. With minimal bleeding and having been punctured easily, Debby later begins to oddly speculate at the cabin that she must be experiencing such little pain due to all her horseback riding growing up.

- Debbie is actually forced to take several drinks of hard liquor (instead of just one as in movie) prior to being taken against her will by Duke.

As Duke savors his moment of conquest, the author gives us a window into his mind to enable the reader to better understand his motives:

"He could feel his heated cock growing thicker and thicker in her belly, as he ground savagely into her with a wave of sadistic delight flickering across his contorted face. He had never had anything white like this before, nothing this young, and tender, and helpless and it was driving him insane...He had to end it before he lost his mind."

-The author also provides a very tedious and graphic description of the rape from Debbie's perspective. The heroine of our story fights back hard. During her violation she becomes worried about having been impregnated when she feels Duke seeding her. The author darkly takes us inside the horror of Debbie's mind as she undergoes her violent deflowering:

"Through the dim haze of her tortured mind, she could feel him growing and growing, deep-deep inside her until it felt his rampaging instrument would split her in two. He was going to come in her. Her tears cascaded in torrents onto the rough Levi's of Shorty's crotch. The lewd thought was passing in her mind of this horrible unknown Negro filling her helpless belly and womb with his hot, sticky lust. "OH GOD" she thought. "I MIGHT GET PREGNANT!" She tried to clench her buttocks as a senseless gesture of self defense...

"Oh God, no, no, no, NO!" She screamed as she felt it ricocheting around in a warm wet pool in her vagina-a hot, fiery reminder of her total subjugation to the cruel inhuman tormentor fucking in her from behind.

-Arriving at the cabin, Debbie is taken from the car and her bra, panties and shoes are left behind.  She has difficulty walking and actually clings to Duke's arm to maintain her balance, despite being afraid of him and loathe to his touch. Conversely, in the movie Duke has graciously allowed Debby to have her shoes back on her feet and actually grabs and leads his captured suburbian ivory princess by her arm into his lair.

Finally, this part of the movie script cures a small oversight in the book, as in the movie this is where the gang learns Debbie's name. Or, given the author's emphasis on Debbie's feeling that the gang just sees her as an object to be used, perhaps the total lack of concern by the gang regarding her name was intentional? At any rate, as this lasted longer than I expected, this seems like a good place to stop.

In Search of the Book "Hot Summer in the City"

Somewhere between Ponce de Leon's search for the Fountain of Youth and the discovery of the Rosetta Stone by Egyptian archeologists, are the words to be found for describing my quest to find this book. After watching the movie "Hot Summer in the City" in 2014 and agreeing with Quentin Tarantino's assessment of its being 'The greatest porn movie of all time," I spent years looking for the book that supposedly inspired the movie.

Incidently, I find the greatness of the movie actually lies not in the sex scenes, but in its compelling plot and complex character development which is somehow packed into a movie that is only an hour and 7 minutes long (and is still filled with lots sex and has a four minute scene devoted to the cooking of pork chops no less!). HSITC's accomplishments in character development for an X-rated film are truly unsurpassed.  That the plot revolves around racial unrest and the 1967 Detroit race riot makes HSITC just as relevant in today's BLM Era, as it was when the film was produced in the 1970s. One would think given the Tarantino accolades and the movie's inherent greatness, the book would be easy to find.

Alas, as my seven year search proves, it is anything but. I spent years checking on ebay, online book stores, forum boards and elsewhere trying to find it, but my efforts were fruitless. I found one occassion in which it had been listed on ebay that was referenced in a forum board, but the writer had found the large price tag too prohibitive. Four years into my quest when I saw that post, my desire to own the book had become so great I feared I would mortgage my house if that was what it took to buy it.

Then one day a casual search on Google resulted in the fullfillment of my near decade's long ambition! The book was actually listed for sale on Etsy and at a price far, far less than I would have been willing to pay. I literally felt like I had struck gold (see the book pictured at top)!

Now, having had the opportunity to read the book, I thought I would do a 3 Part Book Review, covering the same three day period as is covered by the movie. I will highlight significant differences between the two and interesting additional material found only in the book, and also re-print a few exerpts that exemplify the wonderful writing style of the author. The spirit of the book, both in terms of the characters and the backdrop of the racially turbulent times in the late 1960s, mirrors perfectly with the spirit of the movie, which serves to make the book every bit as extraordinary as the movie itself. Enjoy and please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or comments.

HSITC Casting Mystery: Who is the only non-credited Actor?

His character is the only part not acknowledged in the credits, despite his character's singular scene occurring at the most pivotal moment of the movie. While he doesn't speak, neither does one of the two male characters involved in the menage-a-trois with Debby's mother. The other two involved in said threesome spoke mainly in guttural, sexual sounds, yet all three characters are named and an actor attributed to the part. So why no such love for the man at the doorway?

As movie watchers will recall, our virgin protagonist Debby (played by Lisa Baker) trips and falls face first into this man's yard as she's fleeing to escape the testosterone fueled designs a carload full of black men have on her body.  As Debby feels herself being subdued by two of her pursuers and senses her freedom slipping away, she sees a glimmer of hope when the homeowner flips the house light on and comes out the door.

Instead of making any attempt to assist her however, the man simply looks at Debby and the two black men ("Duke" played by Duke Johnson & "Stitch" played by Stitch Umbas), and then turns off the light and goes back inside! By his choosing to abandon the damsel in distress in his yard, our heroine is carried away by her captors and loses her virginity in a violent act of political insurrection.

.
In effect, Debby's hymen became the first casualty of the 1967 Detroit Race Riots due to her neighbor's indifference, changing her life and those of the others' around her, forever. Shouldn't this character at least have been given a name?

At first glance, one would think determining the name of this actor would be like finding a needle in a haystack. However, I believe I have the answer as to the identity of this man and was surprised at how easy solving this mystery was.

To begin with, I developed a suspect list. I asked what man was known to have a connection to the movie, but would have wanted to keep a low profile concerning that connection? In addition, as the film was made in Michigan, it seemed likely that this person would have known ties to Michigan. Finally, I had the thought that there could be a clue as to this man's identity hidden in the credits. Consideration of these three inquires lead to one obvious suspect, a man named Harry Mahoney.

We know now that when this film was being made in the mid 1970s, Mr. Mahoney was dating the woman attributed as being the Director, Gail Palmer (Real Name Gail Parmentier). Palmer also managed an X-rated movie theater ran by Mr. Mahoney in Lansing, Michigan, who at the time owned several, and was facing many legal challenges as he sought to broaden his X-rated business empire.  The story behind the film is that Mahoney, wanting to keep a bit of a distance from the film but at the same time promote it to generate a huge amount of buzz and profits, had the film advertised as being the first XXX-rated movie directed by a woman, namely his girlfriend, Ms. Palmer (see below).

HSITC Cabin, located at Kalkaska, MI

Establishing yet another Michigan and HSITC tie, in an interview Ms. Palmer credited Mr. Mahoney as owning the cabin which was the primary setting for the film.  I learned this information from a great blog called "Projector has been Drinking" which gave wonderful information about the historical development of HSITC, and the sordid saga of Mr. Mahoney and Gail Palmer's relationship. It can be found at the link below:

http://projectorhasbeendrinking.blogspot.com/2021/06/once-upon-timein-hot-summer.html

Having enough evidence at this point to put together a "photo line up" of the two, I came across the following evidence. The picture on the top is of Mr. Mahoney (taken from an August 2007 feature in the Sandiegoreader.com), and the picture below is from the movie.

With these two photos, I pronounce this mystery as "solved." The man at the door is Mr. Harry Mahoney. Case closed.

Hot Summer in the City Sequel- The Rest of the Day (Forward and Table of Contents)

"Duke, do you have to go do it?"- Debby

Those were the last words shared between Duke and Debby at the end of the movie "Hot Summer in the City." It was only fitting that Debby's last words to Duke were in the form of a question. Debby's words of concern for the man who had taken her captive punctuated one of the great unresolved question viewers were left with at the end- namely, was Debby beginning to have feelings for Duke? Indeed, as Debby took her first steps of freedom she looked forlorn over the sight of Duke's vehicle driving away. It was as though we were seeing a damsel in distress who had lost her desire to be rescued (especially perhaps now that her female antagonist and competitor for Duke's affections was out of the way?).

Whether the Debby we saw was simply in a state of shock from all that had happened, or was in a state of sadness over seeing the man she was falling for driving her out of her life forever, that question has remained an unanswered riddle written across the contours of Debby's heart.

The state of Duke's emotions also remained a puzzle, despite subtle clues from his words and actions. Was he falling in love with Debby? Had Duke's involvement with Debby taken a blow torch to his rough exterior and revealed a sense of humanity that had been kept hidden under the surface of his revolutionary fervor? Is that in the end what motivated him to take the incredibly risky decision of setting her free? And what about Duke's plans to start a race war?  Did his time with Debby cause him to lose his desire for revolution and prompt him to back out, or did he follow through and carry out his terrorist mission? Finally, what were Debby's feelings about Duke's Revolution? Did her apparent emotional attachment to Duke make her want to save him from the Revolution, or conversely, had her bond with Duke served to build a bridge of empathy over which Debby wanted to cross over and accept Duke's offer to "change sides," and join him in his cause?

So if you saw the movie and were left feeling a void from not knowing what ultimately happened to Duke and Debby, my series of online Novellas dedicated to Duke, Debby and the Gang is your Rosetta Stone for  answering those questions. On that note, I now refer you to the Table of Contents for Hot Summer in the City Sequel-The Rest of the Day, (Novella #1). Chapter 2. Debby Comes Home to a New Set of Rules

Once again in the back seat of her captor's white Cadillac, Debby lay on her tummy with the bottom half of her legs resting on Duke's lap, her ankles overlapping and locked in place, being held firmly in Duke's hand. She kept her head pressed into the seat to avoid looking at Duke's compatriots who were none too pleased by her presence. As the car began to move, Debby's nostrils filled with what she now recognized as the combined smells of sex and liquor. A sickening feeling sank into her stomach as she immediately realized....

she was smelling the two day old scent left behind from her own violation.

Debby felt a deep sickness in the pit of her stomach. She wondered whether she had just made the worst decision of her life, especially as Duke's remaining gang members continued to chastise their leader for bringing her with them.

"Gaw'd Damn. I'm gonna say this right now and for the record. I think that poison cracker of yours is going to get us all thrown in the joint, either  today, or someday. We really taking her with us to Detroit?" Coke groaned.

Shorty shook his head and immediately added, "That girl is your white witch Duke. She has a hex on you...."

"SHE is NOT my white witch, she's my white BITCH! Now turn around and shut up, we got things to figure out."  Duke retorted.

"First, I want to hear from your white bitch what happened with Stitch and Jody back at the cabin. In her own words." Coke demanded.

"Debby, you heard the man, go ahead and tell them what happened." Duke ordered.

Debby wearily lifted up her head and fearfully looked at Coke and Shorty, then stammered out her answer.

"Well...a couple hours after you all left... Jody came down and spit in my face and told me she was going to cut me to pieces for having sex with Duke. But first she said she was going to have Stitch fuck me in the ass."

"Then...after Stitch had...finished....Jody got out her knife, but Stitch got in the way to protect me... so she stabbed him!" Debby exclaimed, with a horrified look on her face. She then began to sob as she continued, "Then she leaned down to stab me when Duke walked in and shot her. She would have killed me if he hadn't."

"Like you had any choice in having sex with Duke." Coke replied sympathetically, shaking his head.

"That crazy bitch." Shorty added. "I can see why you did what you did Duke. Damn, Jody was crazy. Still, I hate that either of them had to die though for a fuckin' honky."

"I still can't believe you did it. Never would have figured you of all people to become a fuckin' cracker lover." Coke scoffed, shaking his head as he drove.

"Ok. Shut your mouths now, both of you. First of all, Debby ain't no poison cracker. Jody's the reason we got two dead bodies back at the cabin, not Debby. You all just need to trust me on this. My honky chick is going to show herself to be more than worth her keep. When the Race War goes down, having a white girl on our side is going to prove to be a very useful tool. Trust me!"

Debby reached down and rubbed Duke's calf to show she appreciated his defense of her.

"Well see about that Duke. I'm just glad Stitch finally got a piece of white ass before he died. I''m damn sick over losing him." Coke lamented.

"I am too Coke, we all are. We'll take time to mourn later. Now we got two big issues to deal with. What to do with Jody and Stitch's bodies, and if we are going to agree on going through with the mission today if the Man asks us too. I don't like the time line being pushed up a day. Give me some time to think."

"Duke, what are you going to do with the honky bitch if this goes down today?" Shorty asked.

"She'll stay with Coke in the getaway car. He could use another set of eyes."

Duke's comment stoked a sense of fear and dread in Debby as she laid there in silence. She could never help in hurting anyone, let alone take part in a race war. She realized she got in the car out of sensing some good in Duke and wanting to try and save him from the life of prison or early death to which he was headed. Recalling the fact that she was again in the back seat of the vehicle where this man had forcibly taken her virginity two nights ago, Debby's sense of exhilaration at being with Duke began to dampen from feeling like she had just made the most foolish choice of her life. And was now helpless to do anything about it.

Then a prolonged silence fell on the car. As they drove on to where she did not know, she felt Duke put his hands on her feet and begin to wipe the dirt off of them, even taking time to pick out what felt like a splinter. He then began rubbing her feet, which made Debby feel a little better.

As she laid there enjoying the foot massage and focusrd on finding some balance to her emotions, Debby looked down and saw her shoes on the floorboard. But any hopes that Duke would make her feel like Cinderella and slip her shoes on her feet were soon dashed.

"Go ahead an put your shoes on woman. We're all gonna be getting out of the car soon." Duke instructed, pulling her up by the arm into a sitting position. First though we're gonna be stopping at that gas station up ahead. I gotta call my contact."

Debby placed her hand on Duke's shoulder and said, "Duke, I don't think you'll want me out of the car with my dress so torn, it could cause you to get a lot of unwanted attention."

"Honky's right." agreed Shorty. "You need to get your bitch some clothes."

"My mom is away visiting her sister and won't be back until this weekend. I could get some of my things, it's only about 20 minutes away." Debby suggested, recognizing where she was at as they pulled into a Sinclair gas station. They had just taken the exit off Interstate 94 which led to her hometown of Midwood, Michigan.

"Let's do that maybe, after I make my call. Not sure what direction this is going yet." replied Duke.

"Hey Duke, we're with you a 100% either way." Shorty said solemnly.

"Yea man." Coke added.

"Thanks." Duke replied, nodding his head, as they pulled into the gas station.

'Was Duke reconsidering the mission? Please God I hope so!' Debby thought to herself as she placed her hand on Duke's leg and squeezed it to show her support. So many questions she wanted to ask, but she knew now wasn't the time, or the place.

They parked at the gas station and she watched Duke make a call from a nearby pay phone. After a couple of minutes she saw Duke put down the phone.

Duke got in the back seat and said, "Good, the plan is to be pushed back now for at least two more weeks. Didn't get into any details. Going to meet with him again on Friday in the City. No meeting tonight either. Canceled."

'Shew. That gives me time.' Debby thought to herself.

"That figures. I am a little relieved it got called off today as something didn't feel right. Changing the date and moving it up to today out of the blue. I don't like doing business like that. We'd barely have had time to scope out the location and plan. At least we got our money already." Shorty stated, much relieved.

"One good thing, I guess at least this gives us more time to play with the honky." Coke said, looking at Debby from his position in the driver's seat, giving her a very cocksure smile.

"Yeah. We'll all be getting to know Debby a lot better." Duke said laughing, putting his left arm around her and pulling her close to him. Then he put his right hand under her chin and positioned her to look him in the eyes and said, "But you all don't forget, she belongs to me."

Debby gulped. Feeling a shiver from both the comment and the animalistic look of hunger she saw in his eyes. The same look she'd seen when he had first brought her back to the cabin. She sat there gazing back at him, frozen in place and speechless.

"Where do you live girl? We'll go get you some of your things." Duke said smiling, the look in his eyes somehow seeming to change and appear more pleasantly soft in an instant. Debby silently acknowledged to herself that the complexity of this man was a big part of what attract her to him. In addition to his coolness, his confidence, the way he exerted authority in the group, his lean, muscular frame, and his large, wonderful black...,Debby sighed at that last thought and then answered,

"808 Crestwood Drive." Debby then proceeded to give the gang members a description of her house and directions for getting there.

***

About twenty minutes later they arrived at her home. A two-story, grey, stonebrick house in an upper middle class  neighborhood in Midwood, a prosperous town of about 50,000 people. Less than 30 minutes north of Detroit, it was well known for being near Lake St. Clair, and for Cordell University, a prestigious private school where Debby attended college.  Debby and Duke were dropped off while Shorty and Coke were sent to go grocery shopping and to a hardware store to get materials for burying Stitch and Jody.

As Debby walked into the home she found herself feeling another sickness in her stomach; this one occasioned by recalling what happened the last time she had came home.

Last Saturday she had came home from her engagement party, and as soon as she opened the door she had heard the sound of muffled moans coming from upstairs. Debby had thought it sounded like her mother and feared at first that she was being attacked. But as Debby carefully walked up the stairs to her mother's bedroom door, she peeked in and realized her mother was far from being assaulted. Her mother was laying on her bed with her legs spread open and being mounted by Doug Grover, a young, local attorney and friend of both Debby's and her fiancé Bill's families. The bigger shock for Debby though had been seeing at the side of the bed, Bill's dad, Gary Evans, her future father in-law, standing over her mother and stuffing his cock into her mouth. "Stupid bitch." Debby had heard Bill's dad say to her mom, followed by a "hurry up!" to Mr. Grover as he thrust away inside her.

Debby knew in that moment why her father, just days before he died last March, had physically separated from her mother and moved into their rental house just off Cordell University campus. Bill's family and her family had been lifelong friends. Through the years Debby had noticed occasions where she felt like her mother was flirting with Bill's dad, but had always written it off as harmless. Debby also recalled having that impression with Doug Grover a couple of years ago, at a Bar Association family picnic. Debby's father, Richard Baker, had been a local judge and Mr. Grover regularly practiced in front of her father's court. If it ever were to become public that Judge Baker's wife was sleeping with Mr. Grover it would have caused a huge scandal in the community. Such knowledge even had the potential to undermine her father's Court decisions  on cases in which Mr. Grover had served as an attorney.

Debby's father died so suddenly she had not even had time to ask him why he had moved. She now suspected her mother's extra-marital affairs were likely the reason that her father, in their last conversation before he died, had informed her that he would be retiring earlier from the bench than he had expected, at the end of this year in fact. Debby knew her mother's scandalous behavior was completely unacceptable for a judge's wife and put his reputation at risk.  Watching her mother's unholy ménage-a-trois unfold before her eyes, Debby concluded that four months ago, what had really caused her father's heart to fail was a broken heart, one solely attributable to her mother.

Horrified by that thought and fearing she would throw up or otherwise be heard, Debby had quickly tiptoed out of the house and started running down the road, shortly thereafter being kidnapped by Duke and his gang. Now, two days later, that same man who had kidnapped and raped her was being treated by her as an invited guest inside her home.

"They're gonna be gone for a while Debby. Go take a shower first and then you can pack up your things." Duke instructed as soon as they got in the door.

"Thank you." Debby replied meekly, not knowing what else to say.  She went upstairs and got out of her clothes and turned on the shower. Feeling something on the small of her back, she felt of it with her fingers. Looking down at it she realized she was looking at the residue of Stitch's seed. A sense of sadness came over her as she washed away what she recognized as the last remnants of life from the young man who had first tried to save her. That's what she resolved to always remember him for,  vowing to forgive and forget that he was also the reason why her rear end was now so painfully sore.

After showering, Debby walked into her upstairs bedroom just across from the bathroom. She saw Duke sitting on the edge of her bed, looking at himself in the dresser mirror that was facing the bed. When he looked over to her, Debby could tell from the look in his eyes that he liked what he saw. Debby was wrapped in a white bathroom towel that barely covered the tops of her breasts, and came down only just enough to cover her pubic hair patch.

"Come hear girl. We need to go over a few things. I'm looking forward to us getting to know each other better, but there are a few things we need go over now."

Debby nodded her head and promptly walked over to Duke and stood directly in front of him and faced him. Duke reached out and began rubbing the front and backs of her legs with his hands as he began talking.

"First, since your my woman now and that means your staying with me. We don't have a lot of room in the cabin so just pack your essentials and some clothes. As for clothes, don't pack more than one or two pairs of pants as I really don't want you wearing them. I want these sexy white legs of yours kept bare all the time so me and my boys can see them everyday. I also want you mainly in skirts and dresses so you are always instantly accessible to me, and maybe my crew or others when I'm feeling generous. If you pack any shorts, make sure they are just that. Short." So Duke directed, looking serious, but showing a faint hint of a smile.

"Ok." Debby answered, again nodding her head, not knowing what to think of her new dress code. The feeling of his hands rubbing and caressing her freshly bathed and lotion covered legs felt really good.   Debby even began to feel a little wetness between her thighs. Although she found it a bit disconcerting that her much appreciated legs would likely be being spread open for Shorty, Coke, and even others regularly as well, not just for Duke. Monogamous in spirit, Debby was really wanting Duke to keep her to himself, a longing she recognized was almost certainly hopeless, at least for now.

Duke then took his right hand under her towel and began rubbing the tender folds of Debby's femininity. Delicately he rubbed and caressed her folds and crevices, occasionally flicking her clitoris and the entrance to her pool of moisture with his fingers. Debby looked down into Duke's eyes and felt her breath begin to shorten from the arousal he was building within her.

Duke then continued,

"First, I have some protocol for you to follow that will help Shorty and Coke come around to the idea of my keeping you around. So, while when it is just you and me you can call me "Duke." But whenever the others are around I want you to call me "Sir." I was in the military and run my crew like it's a military operation, so respect is very important to me. For that reason you are to address Shorty and Coke as "Sir" as well.  As I am the leader you will always call me "Sir," and if you need to talk directly to Shorty or Coke and another of us is in the room or wherever, you should address who you need to talk to as either "Shorty Sir" or "Coke Sir," for example.  Basically "Sir" is how I want you to address any black man that you may come in contact with unless I say otherwise  Got it?" Duke asked in a very no-nonsense tone, as he inserted his index finger partially into her pussy.

"Ye..Yes..ssS..Sir." Debby managed to say, nodding her head again, this time vigorously. She was surprised at both the suddenness of the insertion and the degree to which it was causing her to juice.

"What's your last name girl?" Duke asked, literally coaxing out the answer from her with his finger as he pushed it in further.

"B..B..Baker…,May I ask yours?

"I'll tell you when I'm ready."

 "Ohh.....Okay"

Duke removed his hand from Debby's loins and pulled her onto his lap. He placed her facing to the side towards the doorway and removed her towel, letting it fall to the ground. He placed his left hand on the back of her neck and his right hand high up on her right thigh. Debby felt totally vulnerable as she was now completely nude sitting on Duke's lap, while he was fully clothed in his khaki pants and red turtle-neck shirt.

Duke leaned in kissing her cheek and said, "Good girl. I knew you would be a quick learner. That's why I let you come with us. I could tell soon after I met you that you were just what I needed. A woman who was smart, who could cook, who could fuck, and would do as she was told. Just what I need. Just what my crew needs. I have no idea why I even tried to let you go, I just felt bad about what happened with you and Jody I guess? You are going to be so much better than Jody."

"So I am to be Jody's replacement?" Debby asked quizzically. Suddenly she felt her back begin to arch and even experienced a sense of pride about possibly being named replacement to the woman who had so mistreated and tried to kill her. She knew Jody would have hated that and she relished the thought of being viewed as her successor. By now Duke's right hand had worked his way up from her tummy to her breasts and caused her nipples to harden. In addition to arousal, she found herself suddenly feeling a sense of belonging and self confidence.

Unfortunately her hopes and feelings along those lines were gutted by Duke's answer, after he had taken a moment to collect his thoughts.

"Kind of, but not really. Jody basically had to do what we told her when she was with us, but otherwise she really had her independence. Since your white and this whole damn country is on the verge of a race war, your going to be treated more like a Prisoner of War. Look at what's happening right now in the news. Just last month, race riots in Buffalo, Tampa, and Cincinnati. These riots will be remembered like the Battles of Lexington and Concord, locations where the Battle for Black America began. Pockets of resistance are springing up everywhere. The Black Revolution is at hand and those whites who have not already proved themselves loyal to the cause will be regarded as at least highly suspect, if not the enemy. So for now your always going to have to be under the command and control of one of us. Whether it's me or if I am gone, Shorty or Coke, or someone else we may be working with. Now the more  you behave and the more you show us we can trust you, the more privileges you will get and the better off you'll be treated. Ultimately things could even change better for you than that, but that will take time and trust. For the foreseeable future anyway, your always going to kept under someone's watch and authority to some degree. It's really for your own protection and good so your gonna have to ger used to it. Understood?"

His left hand having stayed on the back of Debby's neck, Duke twisted her head so she would look directly at him as he spoke the last sentence. "I understand Sir." Debby said solemnly, looking at him for a moment, then casting her eyes downward, trying to hide the disappointment she felt at knowing she likely could never aspire to have the same status as Jody due to her skin color.

She realized that in her own way she was now experiencing racism for the first time and recognized it for the evil that it was. In doing so she actually found herself feeling more empathy with her captors, giving her a point of reference that allowed her to better understand their plight of racial inequality and the motives for Duke's call to arms.

Sensing Debby needed a light moment, Duke added with a chuckle, "Worry not though. We will never place you under a black woman's control again, we don't want you ending up getting killed."

Still on Duke's lap, Debby burst out laughing. And the next thing Duke was to say made her feel even better. Duke turned Debby around to face him directly, and as she looked up at him with her beautiful blue eyes, Duke looked into them and said,

"Also, one other thing. You are Jody's successor in one very important way. Just like Jody was, you are now 100% my woman.  You belong to me, just as she did, and my men and everyone else in the world will be made to respect that."

Debby smiled happily and closed her eyes as Duke drew her towards him to kiss her lips. They met each others lips with an equal degree of tenderness and mutually growing passion. Debby quickly  wrapped her arms around Duke's back and her legs around Duke's waist. She even locked her ankles behind his back, as if to hold onto to the moment in which Duke had just reaffirmed his possession of her...to hold onto it for as long as humanly possible.

Whatever her concerns were about the future, in that moment Debby felt both safe and aroused in Duke's arms. To her all that mattered then was the moment...
