Hot Summer in the City Sequel- The Rest of the Day (Forward and Table of Contents)

"Duke, do you have to go do it?"- Debby

Those were the last words shared between Duke and Debby at the end of the movie "Hot Summer in the City." It was only fitting that Debby's last words to Duke were in the form of a question. Debby's words of concern for the man who had taken her captive punctuated one of the great unresolved question viewers were left with at the end- namely, was Debby beginning to have feelings for Duke? Indeed, as Debby took her first steps of freedom she looked forlorn over the sight of Duke's vehicle driving away. It was as though we were seeing a damsel in distress who had lost her desire to be rescued (especially perhaps now that her female antagonist and competitor for Duke's affections was out of the way?).

Whether the Debby we saw was simply in a state of shock from all that had happened, or was in a state of sadness over seeing the man she was falling for driving her out of her life forever, that question has remained an unanswered riddle written across the contours of Debby's heart.

The state of Duke's emotions also remained a puzzle, despite subtle clues from his words and actions. Was he falling in love with Debby? Had Duke's involvement with Debby taken a blow torch to his rough exterior and revealed a sense of humanity that had been kept hidden under the surface of his revolutionary fervor? Is that in the end what motivated him to take the incredibly risky decision of setting her free? And what about Duke's plans to start a race war?  Did his time with Debby cause him to lose his desire for revolution and prompt him to back out, or did he follow through and carry out his terrorist mission? Finally, what were Debby's feelings about Duke's Revolution? Did her apparent emotional attachment to Duke make her want to save him from the Revolution, or conversely, had her bond with Duke served to build a bridge of empathy over which Debby wanted to cross over and accept Duke's offer to "change sides," and join him in his cause?

So if you saw the movie and were left feeling a void from not knowing what ultimately happened to Duke and Debby, my series of online Novellas dedicated to Duke, Debby and the Gang is your Rosetta Stone for  answering those questions. On that note, I now refer you to the Table of Contents for Hot Summer in the City Sequel-The Rest of the Day, (Novella #1). Recommend you come to this page and click to the link to open each chapter, as that way you can avoid scrolling through the later chapters to get to the beginning or where you left off, in order to avoid experiencing any spoilers. Finally, would love comments, positive or negative, even if only to aid me in correcting typos. Despite numerous proof reads, I am sure many may still remain. I am also open to suggestions for future story lines, so feel free to email me those or you can leave them in the comments as well.
